Everyone know's that the trees are depleting due to paper industries. But paper is a necessity.

Books need to be printed. Its a necessity.

[...] While you’re at it, why buy a new book when you can find a gently loved copy at BookMooch or PaperBackSwap? Recycle books you’ve finished and get new books from someone else’s personal library. I’m already in the middle of reading my first BookMooch book. (Want to know more about why you may want to share books, instead of buying new? Check out Read More, Consume Less.) [...]

Abra-thanks for posting, The facts above are for the entire paper industry and are a little dated. However, it just shows everyone what our paper consumption (including books) is doing to the Earth and our trees. Although our paper consumption is not the reason for climate change, it is a contributory factor like so many other enviromental issues that we have.

This post focused on swapping to help our trees. An important point that I should have made is reading itself is such a wonderful experience. Find some books for the young people in your lives and turn them onto to reading. I grew up living in my books.

Readers, let us know what you are reading now as well. Abra, come back to visit again and let us know how your book swapping experiences are going. Any reccommendations from the books that you are reading? Anna

I'm a heavy reader.
I'm constantly buying books. But I have always wondered about how much paper is used to print the books I read. I've read the facts...its worse than I thought.
But i want to thank you for putting this idea out there. I'm trying to start a more Eco-friendly way of living and this gets me one step closer.
I love bookmooch.com!
I see a new addiciton!!

I've never used one since I'm a bit old fashioned and I just like the feel of books. But I have a colleague who travels a lot and uses one, mainly because it's good to read and is much lighter than carrying several books around.

You can apparently also use it to wirelessly download daily newspapers.

Hi Ann! I checked out paperbackswap for you and they have 1600 plus audio books for you to check out. So, dig up all those old dusty books and swap them for some audio books.

Parents, Ann brought up a good idea. How many of you live in your cars? I do. Children Audio books in the car are great. One of my friends swore by them. Instead of letting your kids watch DVDs everywhere you go, give them a treat of an audio tape. Let them use their imagination to visualized the characters. If anyone switches to this idea, let me know.

Thanks for posting, Ann and visit again! Anna
