Would keep them away and even kill them on contact. I wonder if it's garlic only, or if there is any other toxic component that they don't mention. I love the cayenne pepper idea, we don't have squirrels here but I'm certainly going to try it for other purposes. The birds leave them alone. I think Gardner's Supply has a very small sized bird netting. I find I get stuck on the netting alot too. I use the same netting for my blueberries too.
