Recently, I was contacted by Chapter One’s public relations firm about featuring a story about their organic baby and toddler clothing line. At first glance, I thought I really don’t have babies or toddlers anymore (sigh…unfortunately) and I was not sure if my readers did either. Would the post just be passed up?
As I read the press release about Chapter One and the company’s founder, Jennifer Murphy, I quickly realized that this company was more than just an ordinary organic children clothing manufacturer. Murphy, in creating Chapter One, combined her desire to be environmental responsible with her passion to help others.

And boy did Murphy create. Not only do all the vendors who produce the organic clothing line follow GOTS (global organic trade standards), but all the clothing is made in the United States by women who had significant employment barriers. Through an established training program, the women are taught skills and good work habits in order to be able to earn a fair wage to take care of their families.
The clothing line consists of onesies, tops, bottoms, rompers, dresses, bibs and blankets in a variety of styles. Great care was given in sourcing the materials and method used to create the clothing line. Only water based inks (free of plastisols) are used for the silk screening and all other dyes are low impact. Whenever possible, all the hang tags are printed on seeded paper that can be planted after they are read. Additionally, some of the packaging is made by the same women who are making the clothes.
The clothing line is a colorful reflection of what childhood is all about. Check out these groovy rompers in either pink or green. Aren’t they adorable? Makes me want to have another child, but my husband would not be participating….

In keeping in line with the Company’s philanthropic views, seconds and samples are contributed by the Company to families in need through Association House, Babybuggy, and Maggie’s Place.
But wait, there is more. Murphy is also the author of a children’s book, The Green Eaters- A Dream Comes True (printed on 30% recycled paper with an environmentally conscious printer in North America.). A summary of the book is as follows:
“A fun and heart warming picture book for babies and young children that tells the story of five farm animal friends who dream of a better life outside of Dreary Day factory farm. They dream of a better future and one day they are moved to an organic farm. They are amazed and delighted by what they find at The Green Eaters Farm. They realize this new home is where their dream comes true! A fun and friendly way to introduce the importance of organic living to children!”
For each book purchase, a tree will be planted through Eco-Libris.

We are dog lovers here in my house, with our puppies (we call ALL dogs puppies), Cat and Finnigan. I have even stopped traffic to rescue a dog off the freeway, left work to search for a wandering dog I spotted through the window, and followed a family of loose dogs until I was able to get a phone number off one of the tags and waited until the owner showed up to take them home. So yeah-big dog lovers over here.
Ideal stuff for gifts! I’ll refer this to my friends, I’m sure they’re interested to purchase for their children.
My favorite pet is our australian shepard/ border collie mix we have now. He is so great with the kids. He is so smart and luvable! Goes to show that rescued dogs are the best dogs!

I will be a grandma in August. My daughter and I will be doing the baby’s room green, no VOC paints, sustainable carpets, repurposed reading chair, etc. You have just saved me so much time in researching the layette!! We will be using the discount to purchase on Monday!!

We are big dog lovers here too. We lost our Samoyed/Lab 2 years ago, but we’ll get another (probably from The Humane Society again) when the kids are a bit older. Although my son thinks we need 3 dogs!

These are very cute and colorful kids’ garments and accessories. And I have to agree that they have a really noble objective behind selling these products. Plus the clothing line is organic, so we know that it is eco-friendly and good for our health.
