I won't be taking these stupid CFL bulbs back to any store. I plan on tossing them out just like all the old ones. They (Congress) should have thought about all of the mercury problems before they forced them on us in the first place. So they can contend with it now because I'm NOT making a special trip just to throw out a stupid light bulb. This planet will be here LONG after we are gone. And if you're an evolutionist, then it shouldn't matter... We'll just do this whole thing called 'life' all over again in a few billion years anyway. The children? They'll adapt to whatever new eco-problem they face anyway. It's no big deal. Mother Earth will take care of herself with or without us. She always has and she always will.

Ugh, people who leave urination stains on the toilet seat are disgusting! I'm definitely in total agreement with you on your other pet peeves, too.

As for Home Depot doing this, I think its awesome of them. Really great to see more and more companies implementing these types of policies.

Some areas in the country take them back when a company uses them to make recycled lumber. In NJ, a county actually collects them and a company picks them up and ships them to China to be reused in some way. (Yes, China) Nurseries won't take them back stating that they may have bacteria in them so they can't reuse them. I would gladly wash and dry them so that they would take them back. Should we start a petition for these growers to take back their pots? Anna

I hate that I can't return my plastic plant pots, too! Why won't nurseries take them back and reuse them? Let me know if you hear of any updates on that one.
