College Bound Green Guide. A Green Mom List.

by Anna@Green Talk on August 30, 2009

I write this post with a heavy heart since my oldest is college bound.  With new found wings, he  is definitely ready to soar. Will he stay green? But as a parent all I can hear is the following lyrics, “Leaving on a jet plane. Don’t know when I will be back again…” Except the [...]

Help! Beautiful Yellow Worms Devouring my Dill Plants

by Anna@Green Talk on August 26, 2009

I found these critters on my Dill plant this morning. They blended in with the plant seamlessly.  Note, the above  picture does not do this eating machine justice.  He (or she) is  bright yellow and green.  Very vivid. What the dark green spot on my hand? Yes, that is poop from the worm. He pooped [...]

Kirei Board inlaid in the Urban Woods’ Palisades dining table. I have no idea how I found Urban Woods, a sustainable furniture maker, but was totally taken with their reclaimed wood furniture.   I loved the Earthiness and simplicity of the pieces.  But the Company does not stop there.  They also uses nontoxic, water based stains [...]

by Anna@Green Talk on August 24, 2009

Say it ain’t so.  Oprah’s trainer, Bob Greene, recommending bottle water? Well, it’s true. Bob Greene has a new website, Best Life, geared towards helping people lose weight. The website contains a section entitled  Best Life approved foods .  Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water, which will be carrying the “Best Life” seal, is one of [...]

Pavers sprayed with Burnout II. How many of you have walkways, pavers, or driveways in which weeds are sticking out between the cracks?  With August upon us, the weeds, especially crabgrass, are flourishing.  Am I  the only one who gets tired of yanking out weeds? Long ago, I would have run to the store and [...]

Years ago my friend told me about crayon recycling. I did not  get serious about this idea until I compiled a zillion broken crayons of my own.  (Boys.  Need I say more?) Since I coordinate recycling for cash at my school, I am always looking for green fundraising ideas or just plain good sense take back [...]

Holy Carrot!

by Anna@Green Talk on August 18, 2009

If  Robin saw the above carrot, he would say, “holy carrot, Batman!”  In my previous carrot disaster article, I asked my readers what the heck is going on.  Although the carrot on my previous post just looked like a bunch of roots, this carrot looks like a bunch of regular carrots! Talk about a bang for your buck. I sow [...]

Featured above is “the Greener Bar Mitzvah” clip that will be featured on PBS’s Religion and Ethics NewsWeekly show this weekend featuring  me along with Rabbi Lawrence Troster, Director, Fellowship Program at Greenfaith Interfaith Partners for the Environment.  It is only three minutes. What’s the big deal about a green bar mitzvah? Let’s face it. [...]

Today we were at Costco to buy food for an upcoming party. As I peered into the shopping cart, I saw a Crunch Pak’s plastic container full of plastic wrapped baggies of organic apples slices.  Maybe it is me, but is this an oxymoron?  Individually wrapped organic apples swaddled in plastic with more plastic around it? [...]

Planning Meals Around your Garden: Stuffed Kale Rolls

by Anna@Green Talk on August 13, 2009

It is funny. I used to plan meals around what my children ate (which is basically hamburger meat and potatoes).  One night was tacos, other night was hamburger, and perhaps a third night was spaghetti. I was only “allowed” to serve chicken once a week.  Fish, forget about it.  Vegetarian? Not in this man cave [...]
