Extra-Terrestrials Visit my Watermelon Patch

Watermelon with strange cicles

Crop circles, unexplained lights in the sky and now strange marking on my Watermelons? ET Phone home?  Is there life outside of the Earth and if so, how were they able to make such small circles on my Watermelons?

Okay. Okay. No, I have not gone off the green deep end.  I am just joking.  (Well maybe.) Pictured above is an heirloom watermelon that I grew from seed.  (I acquired the seeds from Baker Heirlooms.) It does not have the usual green stripes that you see in the supermarket.  This melon is dark green.  Weighs maybe 10 lbs.  Lots of black and white seeds. Really sparked a conversation every time I showed people the markings.

I happened to love growing heirlooms because I have no idea what the vegetable is going to look like.  Many of you might recall my lemon cucumber that looks like a tennis ball with an 8 o’clock shadow on its skin.

Watermelon with strange circles

Was it sweet?  One was and the others were semi-sweet but I can’t blame the watermelons.  This summer it rained more than the sun shined.

Readers,

  • Has anyone grown any plant with unusual markings?
  • Has anyone grown this type of watermelon?
  • Is there life outside of our world?

Interesting. It doesn’t appear to be as red as store bought watermelon. According to scientists we are close to finding planets outside our solar system with the density of earth which could potentially sustain life.

Very interesting markings on your watermellon. Yes definitely kinda freaky although I still doubt that ET life was the cause. No idea what it could be though…

Zach, those markings must be natural to the heirloom watermelon. Just kidding about the ET created mark! But you never know. Anna

Hi, I have a Watermelon with very similar markings , like crop circles, only there were more of them on mine and even more interesting patterns created when the circles joined. I bought the plants at a local garden center. The markings were different sizes , but all had a tiny circle or dot in the center and then 2 more light circles around it like a Bulls eye. The outtermost ring seemed raised and the middle one was concave. The center one was too small to tell. I couldnt find anything on the Web about it. I have a pic, but dont know how to show it here. Only one of my melons had the marks. My guess is insect. I’d love to know more.
