I think the issue with cotton pesticides is its massive use and its damage to the environment. I have Ultra-touch and there is no smell. I wanted to sleep on it since it is so comfortable... As for the stretching Lyra part, I don't have an answer. Ultra-Touch is made out of cotton blue jeans perhaps stretch and all? Readers? Anna Karen, I don’t think the pesticides off-gases.
