Want to win this terrific bamboo top? Check out details below.

Today was one of those wet, cold, miserable days where the cold just travels up your spine. Do you feel like I do, that Spring needs to be sprung? I am so tired of wearing my turtleneck and corduroys, and could add a little spring sophistication to my wardrobe. Perhaps you do too?

Look no further if you wish to add a fashionable, but sustainable garment to that drab winter wardrobe. Oxygen Required’s spring and fall collections offers sophistication and style along with sustainability since all of their pieces contain bamboo, a fast growing plant, which is harvested in less than three years. The bamboo blended fabrics are soft to the touch. An added benefit to this biodegradable material, according to the Company, is the fibers contain an agent called, “bamboo kun,” which prevents the cultivation of bacteria, resulting in odor free clothes.

How about a little glass bead bangle or ear dangle to show that you care about global warming? Well, this is the intent of Amanda and Jeff Haney, founders of Green Beads for Global Awareness,in the creation of their bead jewelry. Amanda explained, “we wanted to make a difference in some way…. and jewelry seemed like a good idea!”

Instead of donning the ever popular Livestrong bands with your charity du jour, consider highlighting that diminutive wrist with either a beautiful tree green glass (picture to the right) or recycled sea green beaded bracelet with an attached silver “go green” charm. Who said showing your support can’t be done with style? The price I might add can’t be beat. The recycled bead bracelet retails for $15.00 and the tree-green bracelet retails for $12.00.

What else do they sell you wonder?

Nike Turns Sneaker Love into Playground Hubs

The world loves sneakers. How many of you have more than one pair? Sneakers help you do amazing things. Do you think Michael Jordan can jump that high without his Air Jordans? Even Superman had red sneakers to help him take off. Er. Maybe those were boots.

I love my sneakers and can’t live without them. I prefer them any day to regular shoes. Consequently, I wear mine out a lot. Actually my sneakers look a little shabby chic right now (short for pretty trashed.)

Let’s not forget our children. When my children were younger, I must have bought 2 to 3 pairs a year for them. When I was not so green, the salesman would always offer to take my old sneakers and dispose of them. I use to hand them over without thinking. Later, out of necessity, I started to keep the sneakers because my kids would always step in the biggest mud hole or puddle there was or play in the grass after a monsoon. Do you know any kids who do not like puddles or mud? Their shoes and socks would be soaking wet and they would be forced to wear their good shoes until their sneakers dried out.

A couple of years ago, my youngest started to outgrow all of his brothers’ old shoes. I thought it was a shame to throw out the shoes. They were not gently worn by any stretch of the imagination. More like trashed and soleless. (My kids take wearing out their sneakers as a serious sport.) At the same time I was pondering what to do with the old sneakers, I also had to find a religious school project for one of my children. Why not start recycling sneakers, I thought? Who would want worn out sneakers?

Sean Bartlett, co-founder of Pangaya, a eco-friendly clothing retailer since 2003, which has maintained an online presence since 2004, announced that the Company will be closing the business. The Company is known for its fashionable and high quality organic products ranging from clothing to accessories. Operations will continue to function as normal as they sell their remaining merchandise. Sean stated in the Company’s blog the following reason for closing the business:

“However, as with all businesses, the time and capital invested must provide a meaningful return for the effort to be justified. At this time, it simply no longer meets that most basic criteria.”

During this time period, the prices of their merchandise will be significantly reduced with savings up to 80%. I went to the site and they have great clothes. I especially like the bamboo pencil skirt, yoga clothing and pants. If you need to add to your wardrobe, then you can’t miss the close-out prices.

I wish the Bartletts success in their next venture.

Wear One for the Earth

The other day I looked in my closet and realized I must own 2 dozen t-shirts that are at least a decade old. I can’t live without my t-shirts. They are soft against my skin, easy to wear, and so comfortable.

I started to think. How many people wear t-shirts that tell you something about them? Tees are walking billboards of who we are and what we believe in. Some people wear their favorite team or sport t-shirts because they enjoy sports, while others wear sayings on their t-shirts that amuse them or provide a political message. T-shirts have impact. People read them, laugh at, and agree, disagree, or align with their messages.

Paul Mak of Shirt Matters feels that T-shirts with environmental messages will reminds us daily to consider our impact on the Earth and each other.

“We all understand the world is changing for the worse; the peace, the environment and people are being threatened. Our mission is to remind and alert everyone about the problems our planet is facing and what we all should do. Our goal is: Better people, better world.”
