The Sustainable Business Incubator at Fairleigh Dickinson University, in association with New Jersey Institute of Technology, the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies and other institutions and sponsors, is hosting a one-day symposium, expo, and workshop Friday, May 2, 2008 on the opportunities and challenges of sustainable technology entrepreneurship.

Topics of interest will include renewable energy, clean water technology, biofuels, alternative transportation, green building and construction technologies, waste management, industrial transformation, sustainable and urban agriculture, carbon sequestration, sustainability education, and others based on registration preferences.Business essentials presentations will focus on business plan development, sales and marketing, strategic alliances, angel funding, venture capital financing, bank financing, SBIR/STTR and other government Funding, and other topics.

In parallel with the afternoon’s entrepreneurial sessions, a second track will look at emerging opportunities in green investing.
Guest speakers will include experts and experienced businesspeople drawn from the region.
Invention to Venture workshops are held in cooperation with the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance (NCIIA). The workshop is intended primarily for college and university students, but is also open to anyone who wants to know more about this important topic.
Cost:
$15 Students, $25 Faculty Members, Staff, and Alumni, $35 Nonprofits, $75 Regular Attendees, $150 Exhibitors (includes display table and 2 attendees).

All materials as well as a continental breakfast, and lunch, are all included in the fee. Also included is admission to the closing reception, with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

Sustainable West Milford Announces

The 1st Annual Highlands GreenFest

When: Saturday, May 3, 2008 Rain Date: Sunday, May 4

Time: 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M.

Where: Bubbling Springs Park
1428 Macopin Road
West Milford, NJ 07421

The festival will include presentations and exhibits by experts in green building, organic foods, clean energy, alternative fuel vehicles, and sustainable living. Local environmental groups and outdoor clubs will provide both information on protecting the environment and hands-on demonstrations on how to enjoy it. Environmental games, pony rides and face painting are some of the activities planned for children. There will be music at the gazebo throughout the day from a variety of local musical artists and a wide range of food options, including organic, vegetarian and local fare. Environmental movies will be screened, and discussions facilitated, on the pressing environmental issues of the day. Vendors offering sustainable products for sale, such as those made with recycled or reclaimed, non-toxic and organic materials, are invited to participate.

City of Summit, NJ

The City of Summit is proud to co-host, along with the all-volunteer Mayor’s Sustainability Task Force
and Environmental Commission, its first annual Green Festival on Summit’s Village Green on May 10,
2008 from 9am.
Participants will enjoy learning how neighbors, local businesses, community nonprofits and city
departments are working together to make our city a healthier and better place to live. Discover
some of the best green products and services available. Here are tentative plans for the event…
City volunteer committees will display information important to our community. Environmental
Commission (clean power), Mayor’s Sustainable Task Force (sustainability action plan),
Recycling Advisory Committee (how to recycle exhibition) and more.
Workshops where you will discover helpful new techniques and earth-friendly strategies (Yoga,
Low Carbon Living, Home Energy Savings Tips, Reduce-Re-use & Recycle, Green Cleaning,
Composting, Green Lawn Care, Local or Organic food demonstration and tastings, and
Green Art how-to’s!) and a living workshop Eco Van provided by the Trail Side Museum.
Green Walking Tour and Eco Scavenger Hunt of Downtown Summit—local businesses will be
invited to participate with a space on the map and will be encouraged to display educational
information about the green practices or products while offering incentives to tour participants.
Stores and participants will receive free reusable shopping bags.
Non-Profits and Green Exhibitors will display useful information about the latest developments
(Sierra Club, NJ Department of Environmental Protection, Slow Food, Green Faith, Fair Trade,
Northeast Organic Farming Association, American Institute of Architecture, Lego Robotics,
Alaskan Wilderness, Earth Share and more)
Hear great, live music from local groups
Green Film Fest- Chelsea Sexton star from “Who Killed the Electric Car” will be with us
for a Q&A after the film!
Bring household items and toys to trade at our “Free-cycle” community yard sale and donate items
to charity (Cell phones for Soldiers, New Eyes for the Needy, Red Cross Blood, Bridges and more)
