Stop making that face as you read my title. You know the “ewww” face. And no, I have not lost all of my marbles although I have to admit some might be missing. So, how can you reduce your energy consumption and help save the Planet? Isn’t obvious? Eat your food cold instead of heating it up.
Okay, not everything is going to taste great cold, but I could name one dish that it delish cold. Well, I could name a few. SPAGHETTI and MEAT SAUCE. Stop making that face again. It gives me the creeps.
Today, I was so hungry and I remembered that we had spaghetti and meat sauce in the refrigerator. I tend to eat dinner leftovers for lunch. I methodically put in only a cup of spaghetti in a glass container for the microwave since carbs make me gain weight. (I usually don’t use the microwave that much unless I need food heated up quickly. I worry that microwaves destroy the food nutrients. See this article.)
I was so hungry waiting for that darn microwave to heat up my food that I started twirling the noodles and eating them cold. You thought I was given chocolate. This cold spaghetti was so good. I could not shovel it in quick enough (a method that I have learned from my kids.)
I can’t tell you how much I ate by the time the microwave dinged. I can tell you it was more than what I put in my glass dish. I needed a police officer to tell me to “put your fork down and slowly step away from the bowl, ma’am.” So much for watching my carbs.
Just think I could have saved energy by not powering up my friendly microwave or oven and eaten my food cold instead. For those of you who eat their leftover cold anyways, you just became a certified greenie.
What else do I love cold? I love tomato sauce out of the jar. (Don’t knock it until you try it, the ones with the horrified looks on their faces.) Hamburgers cold aren’t bad either. Chicken is great cold although my kids won’t eat it this way.
One item I can’t stand cold is bread. I like it toasted. I know. How weird but I warned you about all of my marbles…
So, which foods do you think you can eat cold and save some energy as well? You can gross us out. No problem.

pizza and fried chicken were always better cold if you ask me! when i was a kid i would get fried chicken and put in in the freezer for a few mins b4 i ate it
tho I dont eat much fried chicken any more hot or cold and the pizza’s are usually homemade by me so their not nearly as greasy as the commercial pizza like Pizza Hut etc
and rarely any left to get cold

Some french fries are better cold than hot, particularly if I’ve got some really good cold honey mustard to dip them in.

I love homemade eggrolls cold the next day. I was just eating a cold bratwurst for lunch as I read this. Although I prefer meatloaf warm, I too have eaten it cold while waiting for the microwave. Anyway, shouldn’t it take more calories to heat the food to body temperature while absorbing?
