We often don’t realize that sustainable business are just like any other business. They have to be profitable in order to be sustainable. What separates businesses like Organic Bouquet from many of the other floral businesses in the world is the added layer of caring for the Planet and people. However, CEO Robert McLaughlin knows what it takes to keep the Company flourishing and expanding.
Previously, I posted about the video and audio interview of CEO Robert McLaughlin as he explains why it is so important for consumers to be cognicent of where they buy their flowers and plants. Workers have traditionally been exploited and the Planet has been drenched with pesticides so that consumers can receive blemish free flowers.
The Sustainability Business Model
The second part of the video which starts around the 17 minute mark is where McLaughlin speaks about how he makes his company profitable. You will learn the following from the interview.
- Why there has been investment set backs.
- Moving slower is more sustainable from mistakes made
- Selling to their sources as hard as they sell to their consumers.
- Creating redundancy to stay viable.
- The lack of organic farms to be totally organic at this point.
- Idea generation within the sustainability arena
Running a business is challenging in itself. Organic Bouquet sets an example of how with passion, partnerships, and strategy can create a sustainable business model that continue to prosper.
