I love creating my green news round-up since there is so much to write about and so little time to do it. This week as always is looks of great green content from Ford’s use of recycled carpet in their cars to a new green rebate product website:
- Ford announced “that it is saving nearly 4.1 million pounds of carpet from going in to landfills, by recycling it and making cylinder head covers out of it. This is equivalent to nearly 154 football fields. And not just carpet from Ford, but carpet from all over the place! The cover is the first automotive product of its kind manufactured from post-consumer recycled nylon and is used in Ford Escape, Fusion, Mustang and F-150. This is just another example of Ford thinking out of the box and using sustainable materials in their vehicles (we previously spoke about wheat straw and soy foam seats).” Read more on how Ford is using a product called Ecolon, the recycled carpet material made by Wellman Engineering Resins. I love Ford.
- EarthlyReward.com is a free membership website with links to websites that sell socially responsible and earth and animal friendly products (clothes, beauty products, furniture, pet supplies, and more). Think e-bates! According to the website, members “earn Cash Back for most purchases made on these websites, through EarthlyReward.com.” This is an international website. Australia to the US. Why shouldn’t you be rewarded for going green?
- 20 Hip Ideas for Mod Mamas for Mother’s Day via Curly. Check out the Porcelain and Wood Teapot from Marimekko for $79 and the Minimal Walnut Clock from Off Cut Studio at $55.
I am short on news this week since I have been posting many of my green news tips to the Green Talk fan page. This will probably be the last time I post the “Green News” segment since the GT fans love the green news tips. So, consider “liking” the GT fan page and get involved over there as well.
As always, if you have any green news to submit, please do so below. Self promotion is encouraged.

Ford wants to “go green” just to make his brand more eco-friendly but… consumer are not so stupid 🙂

The carpet underfoot in homes sometimes ends up in strange places, and now Ford’s efforts to use sustainable materials in its vehicles have landed carpet in another unique spot, the cylinder head covers on some Ford engines. Even more impressive are the benefits it has for the environment. Thanks a lot.
