Green Talk Reader’s Question: Eco Furniture Shops in Calgary?

I recently received an email from Shannon inquiring about other green furniture stores in Calgary.

“Hello, I am doing a 3rd year university business plan on opening an environmental furniture shop here in Calgary. I was wondering if you may have any useful information for me about who may be a competitor (was unable to find any major ones in this area) who you think would be interested in these types of products and any other information that you would consider when opening a shop such as this.
thank you muchly!
Shannon

Since I am not from this area, I am reaching out to my readers and asking them for some advice for Shannon.  I am not aware of any furniture competitor in Calgary, but do know about some eco-friendly Canadian furniture companies. They are as follows:

  •  Pure Furniture Design by Ami McKay with offices in Vancouver and sold throughout Canada, United States, and online.
  • Upholstry Arts  located in Vancouver, British Columbia. and sold directly through the company.
  • Durante Furniture with offices in  New Westminster, British Columbia, and sold throughout the US and Canada.
  •  Eco Furniture   with offices in Victoria, British Columbia, and sold directly through the company.

Please add to my list.

Readers, can you help out Shannon?

I don’t know any competitors that reside in Shannon’s area. All I want to do is to encourage her to open her green furniture business as soon as possible. I think many societies from all over the world are getting more and more aware of green issues…

So you don’t have to worry about the market of your products, all you need to do is make your store known to all residents in that area and create ads that educate and raise their awareness about green products, when they realize how important it is, then you create your own market and perhaps you become the pioneer in your area…

And you know almost no one can beat the pioneers…

Btw I also run a humble green-tech blog, and I would really appreciate if the owner of this blog would accept my invitation to exchange link with me, so please review my blog before you decide…. 🙂 Anyway thanks…

The more eco-friendly businesses we have out there the better. Everyone benefits when we buy green.

I tried to open an eco-furniture store in the UK. I had a number of problems. Advice I would give: make sure you have the very best products that can compete with any other offerings. Some of what I sold was of low quality and it backfired on me. Secondly, whatever you plan to spend on marketing – treble, then treble again!

Halstead makes Eco friendly furniture in Calgary, AB – beds and living room furniture. Riva’s Eco store in inglewood might have ideas about other competitors.

I agree with the other comments here. As long as you sell authentic green products you won’t have problems with eco-friendly people.
