Happy Thanksgiving! What Are You Thankful For?

Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving Feast

My friend, Burton, sent this to me in an email a couple days before Thanksgiving. I reprinted it because no matter how lousy your year has been, if you can say you are thankful for any of the below, you are blessed.

Life stuck in the Minutia?

Sometimes, we get so caught up in our minutia that we don’t see the simple thing in life. The sunrise, sunset, a bee hovering over a flower, or a touch of a loved one. Days turn into years and then decades, and you realize that you missed all the joys of the simplest moments.

Before I get too philosophical on you, stop and promise to do three things for me. Hug your loved ones this Thanksgiving, thank the Earth for her bounty, and do something nice for yourself. (I truly mean the last one.  Stop making yourself last.  Moms, you know what I mean.)

What I am thankful for?

Of course without saying, I am thankful for my family and my friends who love me unconditionally.  Who else would put up with a crazy eco-nut like me?  And of course, Mother Earth who makes it possible for me to harvest such a beautiful garden.  Believe me, she does most the work.  I just try and not to screw it up too much.

And to my Green Talk community…

How can I forget about you? I am so thankful for all of you who push me with your questions, your love, and your support.  From the bottom of my heart. (*tears weld up and small tear streams down face.*)  Green Talk is because of all of you.  Get me a hankie, someone. (*Sniff*)  And you, dry your eyes as well.

So, before you read the following email excerpt, what are all you thankful for?

Thanks, Burton for such a beautiful email.

“I AM THANKFUL:

FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT’S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM EMPLOYED .

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING, WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING, AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

FOR THE PARKING SPOT I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION .

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH WHO SINGS OFF KEY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I CAN HEAR..

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.

AND I AM THANKFUL:
FOR THE  CRAZY PEOPLE I HANG WITH
BECAUSE THEY MAKE IT FUN AND INTERESTING TO BE ALIVE.

AND FINALLY, FOR TOO MUCH E-MAIL
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE THINKING OF ME.

SEND THIS TO SOMEONE YOU CARE ABOUT.. I JUST DID.

Live well, Laugh often, & Love with all of your heart!

So, tweet, share, and cut and paste this excerpt, so others can think how blessed they truly are.  Let me know what you are thankful for.   Have a Happy T-Day.

Don’t forget what you promised me.  Hug family, thank Mother E, and do something nice for yourself.  (Let me know if you kept your promise to me.)

Taking time to do something nice for ourselves is critical as we run from location to location over the course of five days. I’m totally exhausted heading into Sunday as are the kids and rest of the family. It’s a great time of year but also an easy one to forget about taking care of ourselves.

We really have a lot to be thankful for. Just being alive and breathing day in and day out is enough to say thanks for. Life is wonderful!
