HealthyToys Implements HealthyStuff.org which Tests Your Stuff

September 22, 2009 By: Anna2 Comments

I have been a big supporter of HealthyToys.org  for a couple of years, who brought to light what chemicals were lurking in our children’s toys.  In 2007, they tested a multitude of toys  and created a list of safe and not so safe toys.   How can we forget the  China lead scare?   Over the years, they have expanded thier list of toys that were tested .  Kind of like being on Santa’s good non-toxic list or not.

I don’t know about you but I wish that I could walk into a store and know what’s in a product instead of playing eco-detective.  Why should I have to?  Thank goodness, HealthyToys.org created www.HealthyStuff.org, which lists 15,000 tests results on over 5000 common items such as purses, back to school items,  and more.  According to the organization, in the future, there will be a mobile phone app and blog friendly widgets.

But wait.  Don’t just run to the HealthyStuff.org  page to check out what products are safe, please send an email to your Congressional representative urging them to to pass the Kid-Safe Chemical Act which would effectively regulate toxic chemicals in products so they are safe for people and pets.

For those of you who want to play sluth, go right ahead. I just perfer to know what’s safe and what’s not.  Thanks HealthyToys.org for taking this giant stuff leap forward to make our world  safer.

Although I’m not really convinced that cell phone radiation is harmful, but on my list of concerns for children’s safety, it’s much higher on my list than chemicals. Still, an interesting site.
