Remember Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams?…”If you build it they would come.” Well, he built that ball field and people came, which ultimately saved his farm. Fast forward to the BP fasco, here is this sexy man again armed with a water purification system which separates oil from the water. Watch the above video about the system.
Can Costner save the “farm” again?
Recently, he testified before the House Energy and Environment subcommittee with regards to his proposal to clean up the oil mess with his water-purification system, in which he invested $26 million of his own money to develop this technology. He stated that this invention could help separate out the toxic sludge from the waters of the Gulf with the aid of centrifugal force. [source.] See here as he testifies in front of the committee.
“What I can provide is a technology that is available immediately, a technology that will allow rigs to resume operation and put people back to work,” Cosnter said, hailing it as a “partial solution” to the 50-day-old mess.
Cosnter and his team started developing this technology after the Exxon-Valdez disaster. According to Costner’s partner, John Houghtaling,
“It’s like a … big vacuum cleaner and it brings the water up and oil up and it will actually separate the oil and separate the water.”
He further stated that the biggest machine can handle 200 gallons per minute, which is 50 gallons faster than the oil spewing from the leak. It’s a big spill but the team has 20 units to use to get down and dirty. [Source.]
My money is on Costner. So, what does BP think?
“‘We were confident the technology would work but we needed to test it at the extremes,” Doug Suttles, BP’s chief operating officer, said.
Suttles said BP has placed a significant order with Costner’s company, Ocean Therapy Solutions, and will be working with the firm to rapidly deploy 32 of the machines.”
Thank goodness, Costner built it. Let’s hope that he does in fact save the “farm.”

The BP oil spill is a horrific sight. It breaks my heart to know so many animals have died or are injured. It sounds like Kevin may be able to help. My bet is on him.

That’s great, we need all the help we can get to solve this problem. I think it was John Stewart on the Daily Show that said, “if you spilled it, they will come.”
Jason Greene says
that is cool that kevin is making some great stuff that can help everyone. he was in waterworld, oil was scarce and you have to be careful with it.
