Beth of Fake Plastic Fish sent me the following email about the importance of supporting a National Bottle Bill to reduce the amount of plastic (ugh) bottles that are being sent to landfills. Read on as to why a national bill is so important:
“Show Your Support For a National Bottle Bill! This year California will recycle a record 18 billion used beverage containers, or 80% of every aluminum, glass and plastic container sold. Recycling these materials conserves resources, reduces pollution and saves local governments tens of millions in lower litter clean up and waste disposal costs. And it’s virtually the same story in the 10 other states with similar Bottle and Can recycling laws. States that have bottle bills have reached recycling rates near or above 80%, and have significantly reduced beverage container litter, green house gas emissions, and waste. But 40 states are still needlessly sending billions of beverage containers into landfills annually.
Representative Edward Markey’s has reintroduced a national bottle bill in Congress that would place a 5 cent redemption fee on beverage containers. Californians Against Waste has partnered with the national Campaign for Recycling and other organizations to build support for comprehensive bottle and can recycling law across the country. But we need your help.
Take Action: Vote in this online poll to show your support for a national bottle bill.

I responded to the poll and right now the results are 60 percent in favor of a National Bottle Bill and 40% are opposed. Please send this article to all your friends to help reduce the amount of bottles being sent to landfills each year. They take centuries to decompose. Is this the legacy you want to give to your grandchildren or great-grandchildren?

Very cool bill, my company and I are all about supporting anything green and environmentally friendly! I will be sure to share this with my Twitter followers, StumbleUpon, and also with my personal network of friends with green friendly blogs. Please, let me know if you hear of any updates to the bill and how the public has responded to it. I think that this is going to do very good tings for our country. We also have listed Green Talk onto our favorite & best green/gardening blogroll list. Hope to talk with you soon.
