The other day I received an email from Kristopher Dukes asking if I would post my top ten shopping choices on a website, “ThisNext.” What is “ThisNext website,” I wondered? And why did Kristopher want me to post my green favorites on this site? Had someone big discovered me? I felt like a puppy. Wagging my tag at the slightest amount of attention. So, if someone wants my opinion? I am so all over that.
Still thinking I was special, I went to ThisNext website to find out that it seemed like hundreds of people have posted their recommended products. Oh, well. Why not join the party and let them know what a green lovin green building girl loves? Coming up with 10 green recommendations shouldn’t be that hard.
Right?
What is This Next about?
“Founded in 2006 by a team of seasoned internet entrepreneurs, ThisNext.com has changed the way people discover and shop for products online. So, what Should I Recommend that isn’t so Eco Passé?
Is there green content on ThisNext? Sure. they already had successful green trend-makers such as Danny Seo ( Simply Green), Heather Stephenson and Jen Boulden (the gals of Ideal Bite), and Kevin Contreras (Building Green TV) listing their picks. Despite these “A” listers, I still felt special. Someone wanted my opinion. How can you not feel special?
It seemed everyone on the site was listing personal or clothing products. If I had a dog, he would have been on there too. So, I pondered. Then pondered some more. What could I recommend? Shopping has never been my thing.
Should I recommend my recycled toilet paper (Marcal) or my shampoo (Jason)? Nah. How boring. I wanted to post with panache. Climb every mountain, type of thing. Hit me with your best shot. (Enough, Anna. I think they got it. Sorry. I am kind of still in the 80’s.) So I thought again. What if I made a list of the following?
- Green cleaning products. Okay three items: vinegar, Bon Ami, and baking soda. Three Items. Next.
- I haven’t bought any green designer clothing since I never throw my clothes out. (Ask my sister, and she will verify this fact about me. I know the 3 Rs: reuse, reuse and reuse.) Next.
- How about green gardening supplies? I garden organically so I don’t really have a top 10 list of green fertilizers, insecticides, etc. I just have a pair of wore out gloves, my trusty small shovel (when I can find it), and my husband who helps me with lots of task . (You know, the honey-do list? A man’s nightmare.) Can I list him? Next.
I was left with what I know best— Green Building Products. How sexy is that?? I started day dreaming. Brad Pitt sitting on a Richlite counter (an eco counter top material). Well, you just don’t get sexier than that (well maybe Kevin Costner … Matthew McConaughey … snap out of it; remember the guy who helps you in the garden. The one you were going to list?)
Get Off the Pot and Give Me 10
Then I received an email from Kristopher, “can she count on me for Friday?” No more stalling. Just pick ten I kept saying. So, with Batman like determination when he says “To the Batmobile, Robin…”, I sat down and started working.
As Friday was looming over me like Freddie Krueger, I finally compiled a list of ten products (not in any order) that I would recommend, and (drum role please), they are as follows:
Stor-X Pacific Closet Systems (their green version)
Naturally Yours Mold and Mildew Remover (I could not resist since I forgot about this item in my only three green cleaning products.)
Solar Star Solar Attic Exhaust Fans
Broan whole house HEPA/Energy Recovery System
Bonded Logic Recycled Cotton Insulation
Sierra Pine’s Medite II fiberboard
Enviro BioComposite Countertop
So, there you have it. Believe me are more than 10 green building products that I love and used. Check the links above and see why I swoon over these products. Oh, before I forget, check out ThisNext.com! It can be really addicting. (I know, since I spent half my day reading people’s recommendations instead of finishing this post. It’s a good way to procrastinate.)
Join the Conversation:
- If you had to recommend 10 items, what would they be?
- If I told you, you could only list green items, what would you list?
- Do you have a list on ThisNext?
- Do you think green building products are sexy?
- Don’t you hate deadlines?

Ecoshopper-I am sure that Kristopher would like your comment! I have been to your website and like it very much.
You are correct. ThisNext allows you to enter your picks on your page at their website and then post it to your blog. All of the building products that I mentioned above are listed on my ThisNext page with a short summary. If you want a more detailed discussion of these items, I have separate posts on each one of these products. Right now I am up to #5 and working towards the top of the list.

For once, someone did not just repeat the same thing that everyone has said before. I was not aware of all the “green” building materials that we available. It’s nice to see the variety.
