Wow Imports: Fair trade and Recycled Fun Household Products

March 28, 2008 By: Anna4 Comments

recycled clock

I recently ran across a site called WOW Imports, a Company who sells African fair trade bead and wire art as well as other imported items. As I was perusing the website, I thought, my readers would love these products.

The fair trade items help disadvantage African artisans, mainly from Zimbabwe and South African townships, to create a better lives for themselves. Some of the other items are made of recycled materials.

So, here are my new finds:

I fell in love with the above Israeli recycled aluminum clock. Update: It is no longer available. It is 8” by 15” and sells for $25.00. It comes in 4 different varieties. If clocks are not your thing, then maybe you would like the following items:

piggybanks

Move over Ms. Piggy! Here is the newest pig in town! Check out this bead wired piggybank for $24.95.

Although Christmas is long gone, who says that you can’t be reminded of Christmas the whole year? Check out this beaded table top 9″ Christmas tree. It is great for those who do not want to cut down trees for the holidays or don’t have room for a tree. Priced at $19.99. See the other Christmas tree designs.

forks-nugget

Handmade wire wrapped & beaded serving pieces – salad servers, cake knives are great hostess gifts. Pictured above is a 4 piece handmade stainless steel glass nugget & wire wrapped fork set. Eating cake will never look so good.

Check out the other items on their site. Let me know which of the items are your favorites.

Very cool—it’s great to see the ingenious things that artisans in other countries produce; much of it being “recycled” products.

My wife works part time at a fair trade store called One World Goods. They are a partner store of Ten Thousand Villages. One World Goods sells tons of neat things from countries from all over the world, and it’s a great place to shop at and not feel guilty. Thanks for spreading the word about fair trade.

That’s amazing bead work! I especially love the beaded pigs. There must be around a thousand beads on them! Their spirally noses are adorable.
I agree that the clock is phenomenal. It caught my eye the very second I saw it.
