Green Mother’s Day by Spending only the Gift of Time.

Editor’s Note: This was the post that I was trying to publish for Mother’s Day but my web host was having server issues with my database. I am still posting it as a belated Happy Mother’s Day.

I am sure you have seen a voluminous amount of articles about what to get your mother for mother’s day ranging from organic flowers to the nifty recycled purse. In my mind, Mother’s day is not about buying stuff, but spending time with the person in your life who loves you unconditionally.

She is the one who:

  1. Spent hours in labor having you (a story you probably heard endlessly) or went to great lengths to adopt you.
  2. Wiped away your tears every time you had a fight with your friends, were disappointed about the outcome of an event, or fell down a million times trying to master that one feat you knew you could do.
  3. Has designated herself as your single biggest fan and the one who would make a point to catch your eye or wave at you when you came across a stage or appeared at a game just to let you know that she was there.
  4. Worried endlessly if you would be okay when you tried something for the first time.
  5. Kissed you at night on the head when you did not know it or checked on you to make sure you were still breathing when you were a baby in your crib.
  6. Tried to make every birthday important.
  7. Always attended all of your plays, musicals, and classroom activities even when you begged her not to come.
  8. Has “mother knows best” intuition. She knows when things are not right with you whether it is running you to the doctor when everyone else said you were fine or pushed the school to make sure your educational needs were being met.
  9. Knows you better than you know yourself.
  10. You could always count on her to lend you an ear or give you advice even when you did not want to hear it.

This mom does not want stuff this Mother’s Day, but wants to look around the table at her children and feel that she is the luckiest person in the world. And all that other stuff that gets in the way can wait until tomorrow….

Happy belated Mother’s Day!

Tell me one wonderful thing about your own Mom or how did you spend Mother’s Day.

By default my kids acknowledge the eldest mother of the family or the mother of my ex. This has been the case for ever and so for me it was always about respecting her, not about the kids thinking about me. I have always been bothered by this.

This year it was hugs and jokes and see ya as they were off yet again to honor their grandmother – but a day alone, quiet to do laundry or whatever isn’t a bad thing – it’s a mom thing! It’s what we do. They did pitch in and get me a lovely hanging glass urn for a candle and a very beautiful card. I’m OK with getting a gift. especially since they plotted to make sure it arrived on time

I didn’t get to spend Mother’s day with my mom because I’m in Ohio and she lives in Texas. Did send her a dozen roses and a card. She is 76 and at 51 I appreciate her more than ever.

To your list above I would have to add :

    11. Bailed me out of every mistake I ever made … not jail 🙂 just lifes mistakes.
